Week 6 Post 1

*Disclaimer- this is not my final reflection, this is brainstorming!!*

Alright lets get started on this... final reflection time!

First of all... there is no way this is already week six, it is impossible.

-How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
I feel as if many magazines are not solely teacher based, so I think I really tried to tap into an audience that can be ignored in modern media. Also, so many teachers fall into this rut of traditional education and teaching can become boring and repetitive, as with any widespread tradition. Many teachers are not even aware of all of the opportunities for traditional education that are available in the world. I really had to seek out some advice as to how traditional teachers could incorporate some of these alternative teaching styles into their classroom. I remember pitching this idea and my teacher asking me if I wanted to be a teacher, in fact, I have always wanted to be a doctor. I was mostly interested in the topic as I come from a project based background. In the end, I am really passionate about teachers using alternative teaching styles in their classroom and I wanted to encourage teachers to challenge traditional conventions and delve into alternative learning.

-How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
I really enjoyed messing around with my magazine to try to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. I wanted to pull my audience in with a clean but thought provoking cover, because I really hated over crowded covers and such. I used a play on the cover colors and theme throughout my magazine and really tried to make the pink and blue carried throughout. I think my table of contents really acted as a way to pull readers in and get them interested in the articles with intriguing images and summaries of the articles. The only thing i really struggled with was the sheer amount of text on my page, which makes me want to used adobe indesign so I could edit the sizing. As far as distribution, JooMag is a good distribution resource where digital magazines can give previews and can earn profit, and JooMag can be distributed on mobile devices. JooMag also provides a publishing option and can be distributed as a physical magazine. As far as getting it to the audience, teachers could discover it through their school system or teaching forums, and eventually through news stands. The magazines would probably be available bi-monthly through subscription. Teachers are commonly busy and caught up in school and may not have time to ready a new issue every week.

Until next time!
